the experiences
Explore the rituals and spaces that define thermae eleven, Calgary’s first outdoor hydrotherapy spa inspired by ancient bathing traditions and modern wellness.
the immersion shower
With a single touch, the space responds. Water shifts. Light glows. Temperature follows.
Three distinct showers activate in sequence — each with its own rhythm, warmth, and intensity — guiding the body through a carefully calibrated play of contrast. Beginning with enveloping heat to open the body. Warm cascades soften the edges. Cool streams sharpen the senses. Together, they coax circulation, breath, and attention back into the present moment.
This is the threshold.
Where heat gives way to cool.
Where movement slows into stillness.
the hammam room
Warmth settles in before you do.
Wrapped in tile from floor to ceiling, the hammam room holds a steady, enveloping heat — the kind that asks nothing of you except to stay. Muscles loosen. Breath deepens. Time behaves differently here.
Rooted in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean bathing traditions, the Hammam has always been a place of cleansing and connection. Our interpretation pares it back to its essence: intimate, minimalist, and intentionally designed for one or two guests who understand the value of unhurried warmth.
Whether experienced alone or shared with another, the Hammam offers a tranquil pause — a contemporary reflection of an ancient practice, where stillness and heat restore balance from within.
The air is soft and constant, encouraging the body to release and the mind to quiet. No sharp edges. No rush. Just heat doing what it’s done for centuries — dissolving tension layer by layer.
Come alone. Bring someone you trust. Either way, leave lighter.
the steam house
Clad in Canadian cedar, the steam house fills slowly, wrapping the body in a fine, enveloping mist. The warmth is gentle but persistent, around 45°C (113°F) — opening skin, easing breath, and softening the edges of thought. Sound fades. The outside world loses its grip.
This ritual of steam has crossed cultures and centuries, long trusted for its cleansing and restorative effects. Here, it’s distilled to its essentials: clean lines, quiet space, and heat that does its work without spectacle.
Moist air encourages deep breathing and steady release. Muscles unwind. Skin awakens. The nervous system shifts gears.
Let the steam linger. It knows when to lift.
the heat house
the heat house is shaped by Canadian cedar warmed from 80 to 90°C (176 to 194°F), slowly and evenly. The air remains clear and still, allowing heat to work without distraction. As temperature builds, muscles release with control rather than collapse, and circulation finds a steady rhythm.
Cedar plays a quiet structural role here — supportive, grounding, and resilient. Its subtle presence steadies the breath and gives the space a sense of order as the body warms from the inside out.
This is a place for precision and presence.
For letting heat sharpen awareness rather than soften it.
Step out slowly. The contrast is part of the design.
the exfoliation room
Texture takes the lead here.
Set within a serene, stone-clad space, the exfoliation room offers a deliberate ritual of renewal through touch. Finely milled salts and sea salts — infused with nourishing oils, essential aromas, and botanical add-ins — are worked gently across the skin, encouraging circulation and revealing a smoother, more responsive surface.
This is a sensory counterpoint to heat and water. The grain of salt. The warmth of hands. The quiet focus of care, performed slowly and with intention.
Whether experienced privately or in shared ritual, the result is unmistakable: skin refreshed, senses awakened, and the body newly receptive to warmth, water, and rest.
Leave your layers behind.
The skin remembers how to begin again.
the stillness lounge
Set beneath open sky, the stillness lounge brings fire, wood, and stone into quiet alignment. Teak seating and sculpted stone loungers offer places to stretch out or sit close, while native birch, pine, and aspen soften the edges of the space. The air feels different here — calmer, slower, unclaimed.
A central firepit anchors the space; its steady glow inviting reflection, low conversation, or simple watching. Seating is intentionally varied: smooth stone forms shaped for rest, teak armchairs woven with texture, and pieces designed to weather beautifully alongside you.
Ornamental grasses and rock gardens frame the lounge, encouraging pause rather than progression.
Stay longer than planned. This space was designed for it.
the tea haven
the tea haven offers a quiet interlude between cycles — a place to rehydrate, warm from the inside, and let the body recalibrate. Cups are poured with intention. Water is purified and thoughtfully tempered. Nothing here is rushed.
On the social side, guests are invited to enjoy our signature Kagoshima Organic Stem Houjicha from Japan. Crafted from first-flush sencha stems and gently roasted, it carries notes of toasted grain, caramel warmth, and a faint hint of sea air. Low in caffeine and naturally smooth, it comforts without heaviness — a steady companion to the rhythm of heat, cold, and rest.
the thermae stone
Stillness with weight.
Exclusive to the private experience, the thermae stone is sculpted from natural rock and shaped into a smooth, reclining form that supports the body in complete rest. Its surface preserves the stone’s original markings — subtle ridges, etches, and irregularities — offering a tactile connection to the earth beneath it all.
Gentle radiant heat builds slowly, penetrating deep into muscle and joint. The warmth encourages circulation, eases tension, and steadies the nervous system without urgency. Here, the body doesn’t float or sweat — it settles.
Repose fully or stretch long.
the warm well
This is where the body exhales.
Heated to a steady, embracing warmth (37 to 40°C), the warm well invites muscles to loosen and the pace to slow. As the water holds you, tension begins to dissolve, and circulation deepens, encouraging a calm, grounded state that feels both restorative and familiar.
The warmth works quietly, settling into joints and soft tissue, easing the nervous system out of urgency. Thoughts drift. Breath lengthens. The body remembers how to be supported without effort.
This stage of the cycle prepares you — gently — for what follows. Pores open. Muscles relax. The mind steadies itself for contrast.
Stay until the water tells you otherwise.
The next step will feel sharper because of it.
the cool well
This is the moment everything snaps into focus.
The cool pool offers a crisp counterpoint to warmth — cool water (maintained at 10 to 15°C) that wakes the body without overwhelming it. As you step in, breath sharpens, skin tightens, and circulation surges, bringing clarity and alertness in its wake.
Short, intentional immersions help reduce inflammation, support recovery, and recalibrate the nervous system. The cold clears mental noise and sharpens awareness, leaving you energized rather than depleted.
Stay briefly. Breathe deliberately.
When you step out, the warmth will feel earned — and the world a little sharper around the edges.
